Target launched in Canada in March 2013. Failing to deliver to consumer expectations from the start and following two years of continued financial losses, the company released an announcement in January that it was closing its Canadian stores.

Target lost almost $1 billion in its first year in Canada, it said. While the losses have been fewer since, the chain saw no “realistic scenario that would get Target Canada to profitability until at least 2021,” said Brian Cornell, CEO of the U.S. parent company. Liquidation sales have been ongoing since.

A new clothing brand from St. Albert is making waves across North America. Apollo Originals was founded by Brad (Boo) McNamara and Mattie Gordon-MacDonald who wanted to create their own hat company.

Apollo Originals now sells everything from sweaters, jackets, beanies, hats and sunglasses, many featuring a spacesuit emblem. Prices start at $20. McNamara said they’ve already had orders from as far as Austria and New York City. For more information or to visit their online shop, go to instagram.com/apollo_originals.

MP Brent Rathgeber will speak on “the proper role for government in a free market” at the next chamber of commerce lunch. The lunch will take place on Wednesday, April 8 at the Sturgeon Valley Golf and Country Club.

The club is located at 25114 Sturgeon Road. The lunch costs $35 for members and $40 for non-members. To register or for more information contact the St. Albert and District Chamber of Commerce at 780-458-2833. The lunch will start at 11:30 a.m.
