The fourth annual Bossy Mama Flaunt will be held at the Enjoy Centre on Sunday, Oct. 27 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. The one-day event will showcase 80 businesses from the region, all of which are at least 50 per cent owned by women.

Organizer Carol McBee said the event has drawn over 6,000 people in the past, displaying everything from clothing boutiques to physiotherapists, eyelash studios, shoe companies, book stores and travel agencies, as well as a fashion show.

The event started out as a networking opportunity and has since grown to one of the biggest events for female entrepreneurs in the region.

“We really want to show how diverse the Edmonton area is for women businesses,” McBee said.

In lieu of admission, the event is raising cash donations for the Terra Centre for Parenting Teens. Visitors can also purchase one of 250 swap bags for $20 with all proceeds going to the centre as well.

“Each bag has a minimum dollar value of $30 but most will be in the $100 to $300 range,” she said. “Some of the bags will have gift certificates ... certain bags will be golden bags with spa night or hotel stays.”

McBee added the event also gave away 2,500 VIP tickets with the chance of winning a $1000 Pandora bracelet. Some sponsors may have tickets left, she said so people should check out the event’s website or Facebook site.

The Enjoy Centre is located at 101 Riel Dr. in St. Albert. For more information on the Flaunt show visit bossymamaflaunt.ca

Your pizza may smile back at you this month due to the annual Slices for Smiles campaign by Pizza 73.

Slices for Smiles was started in 2007 in support of children’s charities across the country. This year, the company is collecting money for the Children’s Miracle Network – an international non-profit organization that raises funds for more than 170 children hospitals and foundations.

For each $5 medium pepperoni Smiles pizza sold, the Pizza 73 will donate 25 cents to the nearest children’s hospital.

“Pizza Pizza started this event for national pizza month and when they purchased Pizza 73 they expanded the donations,” said Kathleen Stelmach, account manager with Torchia Communications. “Just to get the local partners involved in the community and giving back to the people we serve.”

In addition to their purchase, customers can also donate money when placing an order with the company. Any money raised in the Edmonton region will be directed towards the Stollery Children’s Hospital. The fundraiser will run from now until Nov. 10. Last year’s campaign raised over $250,000.
