St. Albert is tops in Canada for the 11th straight year when it comes to financial reporting. A city news release says the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada has again recognized St. Albert for “excellence in government accounting and financial reporting.”

The city received the award based on its 2010 annual financial report.

“This is a significant accomplishment by the City of St. Albert’s financial services department,” Ed Kaemingh, acting chief financial officer said in the release. “It means that we are recognized for demonstrating the spirit of full financial disclosure to communicate the city’s financial history.”

Mayor Nolan Crouse first announced the news at the beginning of Monday’s standing committee on finance meeting and presented a certificate to Kaemingh.

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada is a non-profit professional association serving more than 17,400 government finance professionals in the USA and Canada. It is based in Chicago and Washington, D.C.

According to the news release, the award was established to encourage municipal governments to “publish high quality financial reports and to provide peer recognition and technical guidance for officials preparing these reports.”
