Canada Day is only two-and-a-half weeks away. There will be lots of fun and good family times for the whole community but organizers are still in need of a few good volunteers.
Well, more than a few, says Shannon Norris, the city's volunteer co-ordinator for the annual celebration.
"We're hoping for more than 50 volunteers. So far, we're around 10. We're really hoping to push it up quick."
Morning, afternoon and evening shifts are available for the activities set to take place at Lions Park. People can volunteer their time as individuals or in groups, with friends or even as a family.
"Because it's such a public event, we're just looking for people to monitor space and just make sure that things are going well," Norris said.
This year the city has created an online registration in order to make the process quicker and easier.
Members of the public are requested to help with activities including face painting, setup and tear down, parking and information attendants, activity supervisors and ambassadors for the city.
"The ambassadors get to give away free stuff, the Canada Day swag, and just help us represent the city and help people to have a good time."
The activity supervisors will watch over things like the bouncy castles, mini golf, the photo booth, giant Jenga game, an inflatable obstacle course and the carnival.
Help is also needed to maintain the perimeter for the fireworks display, set for Seven Hills. That is for older teens and adults as it takes place during later hours but Norris considers it "VIP viewing with front row seats." Prospective candidates must be at least 10 years of age.
There is also the need for a cake cutter to slice up and hand out paper plates of cake during the celebration.

W.D. Cuts walks and helps
A recent school fundraiser sure knocked it out of the park in regards to student enthusiasm and end results. Teacher Derek Herman said that W.D. Cuts' leadership class had set a goal of $2,500 for its inaugural walkathon to help support the Kids with Cancer Society.
When everything was said and done, the full tally came in at more than $7,000. That figure was enough to inspire Herman to exclaim, "That's pretty cool!"
The event took place on May 30.
Kids With Cancer Society works to meet the needs of kids and their families as they go through cancer treatment. It is working to raise $2.6 million this year alone to achieve that support.
