Today is the day for Fill-A-Bus – the extended edition. Usually, it’s just a one-day event in support of the St. Albert Kinettes’ Christmas hamper campaign.

For the first time, there is a second event being held to help fuel donations to the St. Albert Food Bank. From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, people can offer contributions of non-perishable food donations at both Save-On Foods locations.

This program is run with the generous support of St. Albert Transit and PWTransit.

The sixth season of the city’s Toys for Tickets campaign has wrapped up with a whopping $4,251 worth of toys being donated to the St. Albert Kinettes’ Christmas hamper campaign.

The program allows those who receive parking tickets issued between Nov. 15 and 30 to remit new toys worth at least $25 each instead of their ticket. There were 142 toys received, nine of which were donations made without a ticket.

The City of St. Albert received 142 toys during its sixth annual Toys for Tickets campaign, which will be given to less fortunate families throughout the community.

All three locations of Scotiabank combined their efforts to drum up extra help for the St. Albert Salvation Army’s annual Christmas kettle campaign.

Each branch offered to match public donations up to $5,000. The one-day event last Friday accumulated more than $9,000 in contributions, meaning a grand total of approximately $18,600 was offered up for the cause.

Last year, the Hebert Road branch raised $5,000 in public contributions, and matched it for an even $10,000.

The campaign has now reached $196,000 of its $300,000 target. Fundraising efforts end on Dec. 24.

People can contact the church to learn more about the campaign or its programs – or to sign up as a volunteer – by calling 780-458-1937. You can also visit salvationarmy.ca/donate to help out. The church is located at 165 Liberton Drive.

The SOARing club is seeking donations of new items for children for its gift drive. The effort has been organized to drive up support for St. Albert Victim Services and the Stollery Children’s Hospital.

People are encouraged to donate colouring books, markers and crayons, fun Band-Aids, Play-Doh, gift cards, stickers, socks and slippers and medium sized stuffed animals. SOARing is a youth organization that runs out of the Community and Volunteer Centre, located at #10, 215 Carnegie Drive.
