A man who went from being politely arrested to pushing an officer earned a week in jail for the offence.

Dyllon Roy Manson pleaded guilty to two counts of failing to appear in court, one count of breaching bail conditions and assaulting a police officer and received a total sentence of one week in jail, which corresponded with the time he has already spent in custody.

Police were called in the early morning hours of Feb. 25 this year about a possible domestic incident. When they arrived, Manson was initially not their biggest concern as a young woman was standing outside, wearing little more than a blanket and behaving irrationally.

Manson was trying to calm the woman down and when police spoke with him they discovered he had been drinking, in violation of his bail conditions and had failed to appear in court. He was arrested then and placed in the police cruiser, but officers thought he might be helpful in calming down the woman.

When they took him out of the cruiser he spoke with the woman briefly, who implied the officers had touched her and he became agitated, pushing one officer over.

Crown prosecutor John Donahoe had initially suggested modest fines for the offences, but Judge John Maher instead decided on a time served sentence for all of the charges.

A man caught red-handed stealing scrap metal was sentenced to pay a $1,000 fine after pleading guilty Monday.

Douglas James Ball pleaded guilty to the theft, from the Fountain Tire outlet on St. Albert Trail, and was handed the fine, plus a year of probation.

In February, police had received several reports from the store about scrap metal having been stolen from their property overnight. When police were contacted just after midnight on Feb. 24 they found Ball at the scene going through the bin.

Ball’s truck was nearby and inside there were several pieces of metal he had already taken from the bin.

The terms of Ball’s probation require him only to keep away from any of Fountain Tire’s properties for the next year.

A man caught with eight grams of crystal meth during a traffic stop was sentenced to 60 days in jail, but will be able to serve it on weekends.

Brian Bajusz pleaded guilty to simple possession of the drug during a court appearance Monday, along with counts of failing to appear in court and failing to abide by his bail conditions.

Bajusz was caught in a traffic stop on April 30, 2011 and when interviewing him officers noticed the drug along with everything needed to use it. Further search of the vehicle also found more than $2,000 cash.

After being released on bail on the charge, Bajusz missed his first court date and appointments with a bail supervisor.

He was arrested earlier this month in Peace River and will have 44 days of the 60 left to serve. Because he is working and has a job to go back to he was allowed to serve that sentence on weekends.
