St. Albert voters will get a few different chances to see candidates in action at forums in the coming weeks.
First up is the St. Albert Taxpayers Association forum on Thursday, Oct. 10. The association's website says the start time is 7 p.m. and the forum is being held at the Arden Theatre.
Next is the St. Albert & District Chamber of Commerce forum on Oct. 15 at the St. Albert Inn and Suites. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the forum gets underway at 7 p.m. After the formal portion is done and the candidates have given their closing statements, they'll remain in the room to talk to voters.
Lynda Moffat, president and CEO of the chamber, said those who have questions should submit them at the forum. They'll take the questions and try and include them by topic.
“We try to hit all of the important topics,” Moffat said.
There are two new forums being held this year, both on the evening of Oct. 16. It's expected attendance by the candidates will be split between the two.
The St. Albert Think Tank forum is being held at the Arden Theatre, starting at 7 p.m.
“There will be professional moderators for the forum,” says an email from the Think Tank team. “The format will be questions and answers from the moderators and the public, and the topics will be based strictly on the issues presented by the St. Albert Think Tank.”
The second forum on Oct. 16 was just announced Monday by organizer Edward Ramsden. The Leaders of Tomorrow Forum is being hosted by the Junior Chamber International Edmonton at the Enjoy Centre. The event is in the Park Room and will start at 7:30 p.m. and is aimed at connecting candidates with young professionals.
The format will be a bit different from the traditional question and answer period with all the candidates up front. Instead the format will resemble “speed dating.”
“We wanted to have something that's more personal,” Ramsden said. “It's more like a meet and greet with the candidates.”
