Residents who missed the open house held on Saturday can still give their feedback about the proposed trail development in Erin Ridge by going online.

Micah Seon-King, community projects co-ordinator for the city, said about 65 people came out to the open house held near the trail head on Saturday.

“I think it was actually a great success,” Seon-King said. She said most of the feedback was positive.

“It was very supportive of the trail,” she said.

The advisory committee for the trail development was on-hand to address questions as well, and Seon-King said they were able to spend time with almost all the visitors to the open house.

Feedback and questions asked about crosswalks, impacts for the trail’s neighbours and trees.

“This community really wants to keep the trees,” Seon-King said. She said anything that’s removed will be replaced, with removal happening before April 1 so as not to interfere with bird migration. Seon-King said construction will have to pause during migration.

She noted another concern of those who came to the open house was that a strong mix of sod or seed should be used to prevent weeds. There were also questions about drainage.

Due to previous controversy over trails in Erin Ridge, Seon-King said she has tried to keep people informed as well as having the advisory committee.

The plans presented at the open house are the 60 per cent plans.

“At 90 per cent we’ll then go to tender,” Seon-King said. That’s expected in the early months of 2014. Once a contractor’s in place another open house will be held to go over the updated plans.

Seon-King said the trail was flagged and some people went on small tours.

“I had a lot that actually walked it and then came back and had questions,” she said.

The information about the proposed trail, which is to be located from Eldorado Drive heading north to Coal Mine Road and includes linkages to Ted Hole Park and between Estate Crescent and Escallier Place to Erin Ridge Park, can be found online at www.stalbert.ca/erin-ridge-trails. Feedback can be submitted on the website or by email to [email protected]. Questions can also be submitted by email. Feedback is being accepted until Oct. 1.
