Weenie and marshmallow roasting can resume in St. Albert with renewed vigour after the city lifted its fire ban on Tuesday.
There has been enough moisture and cool weather since the ban was put in place May 22. At the time of the ban the city’s risk of fire was “extreme” due to a prolonged bout of warm, dry and windy weather.
But the weather over the weekend predominantly featured rain and cool weather. There is more rainfall in the forecast for this week as well.
The city, however, is still urging caution to prevent to any wildfires.
“While the fire ban has been lifted, we are urging residents to use caution with any outdoor burning,” Fire Chief Ray Richards said in a news release. “Conditions can change at any time, which can quickly increase the risk of fires.”
Specifically Richards asked residents to properly dispose of cigarette butts, to only use fire pits for recreational purposes, to make sure all gas barbecues are in good working order and to keep yards free of debris such as poplar fuzz and garbage.
Sturgeon County’s fire advisory was still in effect as of Tuesday. All fire permits have been revoked and no more will be issued until the advisory is cancelled.
