St. Albert is getting its first food truck event.

On Friday, Aug. 29, the St. Albert Arts and Heritage Foundation is inviting 11 food trucks from across the region to serve a range of dishes at the St. Albert Grain Elevator Park.

Executive director Ann Ramsden said it has been a long time since trucks drove through the site to pick up wheat and grains. Now the foundation decided to bring in trucks to deliver food, she said.

“Food truck events are popular. We have a fantastic location and it’s big enough to have trucks on it and have people come up there, eat and walk around the site and appreciate it,” she said.

Among the food trucks joining the event is St. Albert’s Dedo’s Food Truck, as well as a number of regional and Edmonton trucks, such as Cookie Love Machine, Atilla the Hungry, Native Delights and Knosh.

Others include, S’Wich Food Truck, Incredible Edibles Catering, Trent’s Smoking BBQ, Afterbite Mobile Kitchen, The Crooked Fork and Drift Eatery.

Ramsden said the museum has picnic tables on site but people might also want to bring a blanket or lawn chairs. Admission to the St. Albert Grain Elevator Park is free and the museum is offering guided tours, she said.

The food trucks sell their dishes separately.

Ramsden added that the grain elevators continue to attract strong attendance numbers. But the museum is always looking for new ways to attract people that have not visited the site yet.

Plus, a lot of people may have never had a chance to test out the various food trucks in the region, she said.

“We believe it is a great location for food trucks. We can combine food, we can combine trucks, and we can combine historic buildings,” she said.

She added that the foundation is hoping for over 500 people to come out to the gathering. If all goes well, they may turn it into an annual event, she said.

The St. Albert Grain Elevator Park is located at 4 Meadowview Dr. The event will take place from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
