For the second year in a row and the fourth year in the last five, the St. Albert Gazette is tops when it comes to community news in Canada.

For the second year in a row and the fourth year in the last five, the St. Albert Gazette is tops when it comes to community news in Canada.

The Gazette learned this week it had again been awarded first place in its circulation category in the Canadian Community Newspaper Awards for 2013. It last won the category in 2012.

“It's a testament to all of the hard work our staff puts in at the Gazette,” said publisher Brian Bachynski. “Everyone in the office, and I mean everyone, is dedicated to putting out the best possible community newspaper on the street.”

The Canadian Community Newspaper Awards are held annually by Newspapers Canada, a group that represents more than 830 daily, weekly and community newspapers across Canada.

The Gazette is no stranger to winning first place in its class (12,500 to 24,999), having also won the honour in 2009 and 2010. It placed third in a higher circulation class in 2011.

“It really is a team effort,” said Bachynski. “Our solid newsroom, our production staff who make up the ads and put the pages together right here in St. Albert, our press crews and our excellent sales force all contribute to the overall quality of the Gazette.

“Our focus will always be on our readers, who expect the Gazette to gather the news that matters the most to them – local news. And, of course, our advertisers benefit from the high readership the Gazette enjoys.”
