Members of the public are invited to take part in a community conversation hosted by the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta March 24.

Physicians will participate in a physician-only discussion from 5 to 7:15 p.m. at the St. Albert Inn & Suites, which will be followed by a town-hall style meeting open to the public from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The meeting will be part of the college’s regional tour, an outreach program that aims to gain insight into local issues affecting the health system and helps inform decisions about programs and services the college delivers.

Collette Deschenes, the college’s communications co-ordinator, said the college council’s president, the registrar and senior staff would be in attendance, looking to hear about health concerns in the St. Albert area.

“Regional tour is an out-reach program that identifies local issues affecting good medical practice and helps the college deliver relevant programs and services that make sense to Albertans,” she said.

Questions about the free event can be directed to Deschenes via email: [email protected].

If your dogs are barking it may be worth taking in the free foot-care workshop at the St. Albert 50+ Club March 25 at 1:30 p.m.

The session, presented by the St. Albert and Sturgeon Primary Care Network and hosted by the St. Albert 50+ Club, will focus on the things you need to keep your feet healthy and happy. This includes how to take care of them, tips for purchasing new shoes, how diabetes affects your feet and common foot problems: prevention, causes and treatment options.

For more information contact the 50+ Club at 780-459-0433 ext. 0.

The creative process can work wonders for one’s overall mental health and wellbeing, and collage is among the most accessible ways to explore that.

As part of the free month mental-health wellness talks at River’s Edge Counselling Centre in St. Albert, there will be a talk this Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. about how collage-making can be a unique and effective tool for self-expression.

Participants will create a collage and learn how the technique can be applied to journaling and other projects for personal growth and self-discovery.

Space is limited. Register at www.riversedgecounselling.com.

Spend some time relaxing this Sunday afternoon in St. Albert with a modern twist on an ancient meditation technique.

Val Whitehead will be leading a group through an iRest session, which is based on the yoga nidra practice but “has been adjusted for modern language.”

It comes from the mindfulness tradition, with an emphasis on not just being aware of your subconscious thoughts, but meeting them and working through them. It can be helpful for PTSD, trauma, anxiety and sleep disorders.

“This is a guided meditation where you’re encouraged to sleep through the meditation and you enter into a state where you’re both awake and aware,” Whitehead said.

The session at the Community Village/Food Bank is free, but a $10 donation to the facility would be gratefully accepted.
