The planned Heritage Dinner has been called off. With less than two weeks to go before the event’s scheduled time, organizers canceled it on Monday evening. Organizers said that there were a few reasons, most of which revolved around the calendar.

“With the election coming up, we just found that people were very, very busy,” explained Shari Strachan, director of heritage at the MusĂ©e HĂ©ritage Museum, adding that ticket sales reflected this conflict of timing.

“It was hard for people to be able to commit.”

The theme of the annual dinner was set to focus on the Bruin Inn, a popular watering hole that was a landmark for decades at the corner of St. Anne and Perron Streets.

Organizers hope to reschedule the event but don’t yet know what the new date will be, Strachan said.

“It’s still a great idea. We still have a lot of interest,” she said. “We’ve been talking about doing it for quite a while. It just wasn’t the right time.”
