Where could you show your strong support for top level health care in our community and also have one of the best golfing experiences of the summer?

It could only be the Heritage Golf Classic, June 21 at Sturgeon Valley Golf and Country Club.

The tournament is of vital importance to the St. Albert Community Foundation, which provides grants to many other non-profits in the community.

“It’s our big fundraiser,” said Dave Reidie, the foundation’s executive director.

The foundation is well-known locally for its help raising funds for non-profits, clubs and services in and around the community. Several years ago, the former Gold Dust Casino, now the Apex, proposed a golf classic to benefit the Sturgeon Community Hospital Foundation.

The tournament has been extremely beneficial to the local hospital, said Katrina Black, the foundation’s executive director.

In the past, funds raised by the Heritage Golf Classic have touched virtually every area of the Sturgeon hospital, such as a CT scanner, intensive care unit and the new emergency department, just to name a few.

“It has made a huge difference, I think, in the care that is available in our community,” Black said.

Alberta Health is mandated to provide the basic equipment, but many in the community want a better hospital than just the basics.

“That’s why we exist, to provide the very best in patient care,” said Black.

Registration for the Heritage Golf Classic is $1,000 per team, or $250 per golfer. If you don’t have a team, organizers will find one for you or your two or three friends.

Reidie pointed out something golfers will want to know.

“It’s not a scramble, you play your own ball,” he said.

There will also be hole-in-one competitions, food holes, a live auction, a barbecue and Reidie said you never know, some local celebrities might meet you with refreshments on the course.

Organizers are also looking for more sponsors. For more information, contact Barb Hodge at the Sturgeon Community Hospital Foundation at 780-418-7361 or e-mail at [email protected].

Reidie said this is a great event for a very worthy cause. “Every nickel made from this goes back into the community,” he added. “Nobody benefits but the community.”
