A St. Albert man was given a two-year conditional sentence order after causing a fire at his Oakmont home in December 2012.

Jabbar Jahanroshan pleaded guilty to arson in Edmonton Court of Queen’s Bench on Jan. 6.

The 60-year-old was the only member of the household at the scene of the fire during the early morning hours of Dec. 29, 2012.

Investigators found the fire started in the basement of the home and the cause was man-made. The damage was estimated to be more than $250,000.

At the time, Jahanroshan said the rest of his family was on vacation. He was taken to hospital for examination for smoke inhalation and was later discharged.

The 60-year-old was fined $230 in May 2013 for failing to comply with one of the conditions of his undertaking to stay away from his Oak Point home.

For the first 16 months of the conditional sentence, Jahanroshan will be under house arrest. He must also perform 120 hours of community service.
