The steel skeleton of a partially-completed building that has stood idle for more than four years in Campbell Business Park will soon house eight units of professional office space and possibly a gym.

Tony Naccarato, owner of Edmonton-based MCG Construction, recently bought the property at 15 Carleton Dr. and is now looking to complete the two-storey building.

He is already in negotiations with an Edmonton-based fitness company that might use part of the building as a weightlifting facility for hockey players.

“And the rest will be up for lease or for sale. What we are thinking is that it will be more on the professional side of things,” he said.

“Possibly accountants, possibly medical use, a chiropractic type of thing if there is more need for that.”

MCG Construction originally laid the foundation for the building but construction halted when the previous owner was unable to finance the project. Naccarato said he is now reimbursing other companies that were involved in the construction at the time.

Once completed, the building will offer approximately 18,000 square feet of usable space. The exterior will match the architecture of the surrounding area with lots of glass and colours, he said.

The $2 million project is expected to be completed by October.

“The way I view it is people from St. Albert, there are a lot of professionals, a lot of people that commute out of St. Albert every day,” he said.

“And I think if we can generate a nice building like that … they can stay in St. Albert and work here.”

MCG Construction specializes in industrial shops and fabrication facilities, as well as some sports and recreation projects, such as the Victoria Soccer Club in Edmonton. Naccarato said the company is getting more involved in interior renovations and improvements of stores and medical businesses now.

The building in Campbell Business Park is a new type of project but the company is interested in expanding into different areas, he said.
