Want a great way to start your Sunday during the Rainmaker Rodeo? Why not have a free pancake breakfast at the rodeo grounds and listen to some excellent live music while you eat.

The St. Albert Rainmaker Rodeo breakfast will be held Sunday, May 25 on the rodeo grounds at Kinsmen Park featuring country music star George Canyon.

“This is going to be an absolutely great time,” said breakfast co-ordinator Brian Siewert. “People will be able to take in a pretty intimate concert with one of Canada’s leading country stars – George Canyon – enjoy a free breakfast and hear some other local talent,” stated Siewert in a press release.

Siewert stated local talent includes Blue Rhythm Stew, a recently formed band. The band’s lead person is Gary James who is the afternoon host on Cruz FM. He started the band to give back to community and help local fundraising. James first started to play down at Hope Mission as he wanted to encourage those working through the addiction recovery programs.

Another local performer at the breakfast will be Westlock’s Marissa Rae. According to her bio on ReverbNation.com, in spring 2010, she received a mark of gold in the country category at Futures Fest with her original song, Broken Hearted and won the preliminary round of St. Albert Idol.

Her original song Boy Vacation took her to the top 10 of 91.7 The Bounce’s Bounce to the Junos radio competition in 2009, and to Big Valley Jamboree 2009 where she had the opportunity to sing it twice, opening for Johnny Reid, and missing out on the opportunity to open for Tim McGraw after the festival was cancelled.

Siewert noted the breakfast is non-denominational, so all are welcome. “Several churches are working together to make it happen,” he said.

The breakfast starts at 9 a.m. at the Kinsmen grounds in Riel Park, with local bands taking the stage from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Canyon will then take the stage at 10:30 a.m.

This is a free event and visitors do not require an admission to the rodeo grounds to attend. A collection will be taken with proceeds going to local charities. However, if visitors reserve a seat they can use the free ticket to get into the rodeo for half price.

As there is no parking at the rodeo grounds. Free bus service is provided by the Kinsmen and the city of St. Albert. Buses depart from St. Albert Centre exchange and Village Transit Station every 15 minutes starting at 8:30 a.m.
