More than two dozen local residents and business professionals will be awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal by a local member of Parliament on Wednesday evening.
Edmonton-St. Albert Conservative MP Brent Rathgeber will present 30 people from his riding with the medal during a ceremony at the St. Albert Inn’s Grandin Ballroom at 7 p.m. on Jan. 9.
The Diamond Jubilee Medal was created to mark the 60-year reign of Queen Elizabeth II and is awarded to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to their community, province or country.
To date, nearly 20 local citizens have been recognized for their contributions to the community, including Mayor Nolan Crouse, food back executive director Suzan Krescy, former St. Albert mayor and MLA Richard Fowler and three local RCMP officers.
A total of 60,000 Canadians will be presented with the medal by the end of the year of celebrations in February.
