An alleged impaired driver left his mark on a Deer Ridge street earlier this month when he drove into a series of parked vehicles during an early-morning escapade.
Dan Brochu lives on a corner lot on Desmarais Crescent and awoke at roughly 3 a.m. Sept. 2 to find his home and two vehicles damaged.
He said he awoke after hearing voices and decided to investigate. When he peered out his front window, he saw a red four-door Toyota speeding in front of his home.
“I only heard a thud, a squeal and a large crash. I thought he hit another vehicle further down the road,” Brochu said.
Brochu went outside to find that it was his own truck that had been hit as it sat in his driveway.
“He drove it ahead well over two feet into the garage door, buckled the garage door and smashed into my 1969 Mach 1 Mustang parked in the garage,” he said.
Total damages to his garage door and two vehicles are estimated at roughly $16,000.
“He obviously had his foot to the floor the whole time to do that much damage,” Brochu said.
Brochu said the driver was still inside the vehicle when he approached. Three other males who appeared to know the driver also approached but promptly left the scene when the driver began fleeing on foot.
“He started running down the cul-de-sac … and I had to run down behind the guy and catch him,” Brochu said. “It wasn’t that tough to run around him because you could tell by the way he was running that he was extremely impaired.”
He held the man on his front lawn until police arrived.
St. Albert RCMP Cpl. Laurel Kading confirmed that police were called to a motor vehicle collision, but said details are limited.
“I can confirm that it did happen on Desmarais Crescent and I can confirm that several vehicles were involved,” she said.
Charges are pending against the driver and the investigation is ongoing.
Brochu said he is currently going through insurance and said he has a lot of stress resulting from the ordeal.
