A man who once attacked a woman with a machete was denied bail.

Trevor W. Schamehorn, 37, appeared in St. Albert Provincial Court Monday via closed-circuit television. He is charged with breaching probation orders and uttering threats to cause bodily harm.

Schamehorn was previously charged in 2013 after slashing a woman’s hand open and damaging her vehicle.

At the time, the Gazette reported that he had waited in the bushes outside his St. Albert home for the victim. Upon her arrival, he began hitting the passenger side of her car. He damaged the front windshield, smashed the passenger window, opened the door and began swinging the machete inside the vehicle before holding the weapon to her neck.

When he noticed that the blade had slashed her hand, he took off his shirt, wrapped it around the wound and returned to his residence. The attack took place on Dec. 28, 2012.

He was sentenced to one year behind bars but was given credit for two months served in pre-sentence custody. He was to spend 18 months on probation, attend counselling, abstain from drugs and alcohol, provide breath and urine samples and have no contact with the victim nor her three children.

He was also handed a 10-year weapons prohibition and a lifetime prohibition of possessing restricted weapons. Schamehorn had to provide a sample of his DNA for the national databank, as well as pay $11,900.49 in restitution to the victim.

A plea date on the new charges was set for March 16.
