Man killed at Villeneuve intersection

A T-bone collision between an SUV and pickup truck at the intersection of Highway 44 and Highway 633 near Villenueve claimed the life of a man in his late 50s, on Monday. Morinville RCMP were called to the scene of the collision at 5:19 p.m.

A T-bone collision between an SUV and pickup truck at the intersection of Highway 44 and Highway 633 near Villenueve claimed the life of a man in his late 50s, on Monday.

Morinville RCMP were called to the scene of the collision at 5:19 p.m. Eyewitnesses reported that a westbound SUV drove through a stop sign prior to being struck in the passenger side by a southbound pickup truck.

The driver of the SUV, an elderly woman, was airlifted to hospital via STARS Air Ambulance and is currently in stable condition. The single male passenger died on scene. The driver of the pickup truck, a middle-aged man, was not injured.

“Charges will come about as we proceed with our investigation,” said Cpl. Sheldon Robb of the Morinville RCMP. Alcohol, road and weather conditions are not considered to be factors in the collision.

The name of the deceased is not being released out of respect for the family involved.
