A 33-year-old Morinville man was airlifted to hospital Friday after a pickup truck rammed into the passenger side of the car he was travelling in.

St. Albert RCMP and the St. Albert fire department responded to a two-vehicle collision at St. Albert Trail and Galarneau Place, near the Superstore, at roughly 7:45 p.m. Friday.

Cpl. Laurel Kading said a northbound Toyota Camry was waiting to turn left onto Galarneau Place to clear the intersection.

“The intersection light turned red. All vehicles came to a stop and the Camry proceeded to clear the intersection,” she said. “The driver of the pickup truck is alleged to have passed the stopped vehicles through the red light, resulting in hitting the Camry.”

STARS Air Ambulance airlifted the Morinville man to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton while the driver, a 33-year-old man from St. Albert, was transported by ground ambulance to the University of Alberta hospital.

Both men were listed in stable condition, according to the collision investigator’s reports.

The 26-year-old driver of the southbound Dodge pickup truck did not report any injuries.

The collision is still under investigation, although it is not believed alcohol or road conditions contributed to the collision.

“(There) doesn’t appear to be any indications of alcohol or drug use present and no indication of road concerns at this time,” Kading said. “The investigator is indicating the driver of the pickup truck was issued a violation ticket for failing to stop at a red light.”
