A 22-year-old Morinville man who stabbed his cousin last spring will be back in court for sentencing in November.

Elias Morgan Simon has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of 20-year-old Morgan Drew Arcand-Faithful of Alexander First Nation.

On April 4, 2012 RCMP were called to a fight that had broken out near Albert’s Family Restaurant on 102 Street and 100 Avenue around 11 p.m. Officers found one man had been stabbed.

Arcand-Faithful was pronounced dead at the scene when emergency personnel arrived. The medical examiner’s report stated Arcand-Faithful died from a single stab wound to the chest. He also had visible bruising to his hands.

Officers noted Simon was at the scene, intoxicated and visibly upset. He had bruises on his face.

Police believe the cousins were drinking together that evening and ended up in a physical fight.

Simon is in custody at the Edmonton Remand Centre and appeared in person in a Morinville courtroom on Thursday. Several of his family members were also in attendance.

Simon’s sentencing is set for Nov. 19 at 9:30 a.m. in Morinville.
