Morinville man stabbed in early-morning attack

Morinville RCMP are looking for three suspects after an early-morning attack sent one man to hospital with a stab wound to the back.

Morinville RCMP are looking for three suspects after an early-morning attack sent one man to hospital with a stab wound to the back.

Three Morinville residents – two men and a woman – were walking home from Rednex Bar & Grill at 3:15 a.m. Saturday when they were approached by the three male suspects, who were riding BMX-type bicycles.

“The female was thrown to the ground and there was an altercation between the males,” said Const. Yelena Avoine.

One of the males was struck in the head with a pipe-like object while the other was stabbed near the shoulder blade.

“When the officers arrived, they observed the victim and one person was applying pressure on the wound and EMS was dispatched right away,” Avoine said.

The 29-year-old Morinville man was taken by ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton where he was treated and released a short time later. The other man’s injuries were treated at the scene.

The three suspects fled the scene on bikes, each travelling in a different direction. The RCMP dog unit was brought in, but was unable to locate the individuals.

Avoine said the suspects are believed to be Caucasian between 18 and 21 years of age. One suspect was described as having long hair.

She said it is believed the suspects are Morinville residents.

“The reason we believe the unknown individuals are from Morinville is because the 21-year-old female works at a local bar and she believes that she’s seen one of them before,” she said.

The motive of the attack is unknown but Avoine said it was likely a targeted attack.

“We have reason to believe it was not a random attack, so the public doesn’t need to fear for their safety,” she said.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-877-222-8477.
