A short-term drug investigation has resulted in the arrest of two Morinville residents who now face charges for possessing cocaine and the proceeds of crime.

Shawn Iain Botly, 28, and Megan Florence Thomas, 19, were arrested last Friday while travelling in St. Albert. During the arrest police found cash and cocaine in their vehicle. About nine grams of powder and crack cocaine were seized from the vehicle along with about $1,000 cash, which police say is the proceeds of crime. The 2005 Kia Magentis the pair was travelling in was also seized.

Botly and Thomas were each charged with one count of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000.

The two were released and are scheduled to appear in St. Albert Provincial Court on June 4.

Police said information received from the public was instrumental in the success of the investigation and the St. Albert drug unit encourages residents of St. Albert to report their tips about drug dealers by calling the confidential tip line 780-460-3784.
