A man has been charged with the murder of a 25-year-old whose body was found outside a St. Albert apartment building in April.

David Klassen, 26, was arrested on Sept. 1 in Yellowknife during a residential drug raid. He was transported back to Edmonton on Thursday and was charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of Trevor Keith Deleeuw.

Deleeuw’s dead body was discovered in the parking lot of Nevada Place the evening of April 6. Nevada Place is a newer apartment complex on Giroux Road, in the North Ridge neighbourhood.

An investigation soon determined that Deleeuw did not die in the parking lot. Investigators believed that he was shot near the corner of 215 Street (Winterburn Road) and 115 Avenue in Edmonton and then dropped off in St. Albert. The death became part of a joint investigation between St. Albert RCMP and Edmonton Police Services. Deleeuw’s death was the sixth homicide in Edmonton in 2015.

Klassen was also charged with unlawful use of a firearm, assault with a weapon and disguise with intent. His first court appearance in Edmonton was on Tuesday.
