New AISH office open in Morinville

The program for Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH) recently opened a new office in Morinville.

The office now provides services to about 400 people previously served by AISH’ Edmonton office. Government spokesperson Zoe Cooper said all eligible patients have been notified about the transfer.

“Some clients have said that’s its difficult to get to downtown Edmonton so the intent is to provide better service closer to where the client lives,” she said. “And we have not heard any complaints about that move.”

According to AISH’ government website, the program provides financial and health-related assistance to eligible adults with a disability.

The disability must be permanent and substantially limit the person’s ability to earn a living. AISH clients may also be eligible to receive child benefits and personal benefits through the program.

The new office has been open since Oct. 1 and Cooper said it serves the community of Morinville as well as surrounding areas. Other clients of AISH can go through their regular channels to apply for services out of the Morinville office, she said, while new clients have to drop off an application form.

For more information they can also call the Alberta Supports Contact Centre at 780-644-9992. The new office is located on the second floor of the provincial building located at 10008 107 Street in Morinville.
