The St. Albert RCMP has confirmed reports over the weekend of gunshots fired in the Mission neighbourhood were in fact fireworks.

Multiple residents posted online over the weekend about the noises, which many thought to be gunshots.

Last Friday at around 8 p.m., unidentified individuals set off fireworks at Ronald Harvey School and the Langley Park area.

A local resident contacted the RCMP after seeing someone light the fireworks. However, when officers arrived, the individuals responsible had left, said St. Albert RCMP Const. M-J Burroughs.

Although fireworks are heard sporadically throughout St. Albert, Burroughs noted there has not been an uptick in activity.

"It's no more than usual," she said.

If you see suspicious activity in your neighbourhood, contact St. Albert RCMP at 780-458-4300.
