St. Albert's outdoor rinks did not open today.

Despite initially preparing to get its outdoor rinks ready for the season by Wednesday, Dec. 10, the city has now delayed the opening.

Until the weather returns to colder temperatures of -10 degrees at night, ice surfaces cannot be repaired or maintained, the city said in a press release.

Residents are asked to "stay off the river, lakes and ponds throughout the city as these surfaces are not safe."

The city's public works department will let residents know when ice surfaces are safe and available for skating.
