Outdoor rinks across St. Albert are expected to open on Wednesday, Dec. 10. That's a tentative date, of course.

Environment Canada's forecast already promises "warmer" temperatures starting this weekend, moving from -6 C on Saturday to 2 C on Wednesday.

"But the weather would really have to go super warm for it to not happen," said Kirsten Schopper, events and facilities supervisor with recreation and parks.

There are 27 outdoor ice surfaces at 19 locations around the city. All of the ice surfaces will open daily, with lights operational from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Do not enter!

The city urges residents to stay off Lacombe Lake Park and any other storm ponds, rivers and lakes as they are not yet safe for walking and skating. The city will announce an opening date for Lacombe Lake Park, said Schopper.

"Typically it's closer towards the end of December," she said.

Staff and washrooms

St. Albert has five locations with change buildings and staff members. These are:

Alpine Park (Akinsdale)

Flagstone Park (Forest Lawn)

Gatewood Park (Grandin)

Larose Park (Lacombe Park)

Willoughby Park (Woodlands)

There are also two locations with washrooms, Kingswood Park and Lacombe Lake Park.

Maintenance of the surfaces with change- and washrooms will occur Monday to Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and on weekends from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. On all other ice surfaces, maintenance can occur anytime during the week between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
