A St. Albert teen who was reported missing earlier this month has been found.
Selah Smith, 15, was found on June 20. She went missing after leaving her family home on June 8 but had been in touch with a friend on a smart phone application. She had also been reported missing on June 6 but had returned to her family home the next day.
St. Albert RCMP thank everyone who helped look for Smith.
Most schools would be happy to hear about teenagers who can’t get enough of their classroom time. Except when the teenagers decide to break into the school late at night.
Police are looking for two male teenagers who broke into Bellerose Composite High School around 10:55 p.m. on June 7. The 14- to 16-year-olds entered the school through the backdoor and then roamed the hallways looking for open classroom doors. They were scared off when police responded to the alarm.
The first teenager was wearing black pants, a black baseball hat and a black hoodie with a “Metal Mulisha” logo on the front. He also carried a black backpack and covered parts of his face with a black bandana.
The second teenager was wearing beige – possibly army green – shorts, a white baseball cap and a black hoodie with a North Face logo on the front. He also carried a black backpack with a white stripe across the middle.
St. Albert RCMP is looking for help identifying the two youth. Anyone with information can call 780-458-7700. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
St. Albert RCMP will have a new detachment commander by the fall.
Insp. Ken Foster is a 23-year RCMP veteran who was born and raised in central Alberta. His last posting was district policing officer in the Yukon. Previously, he was posted in 10 locations across Western Canada and the three northern territories.
Foster said he is “extremely honoured and excited to have been selected.” A key priority for him is to continue the RCMP’s proactive approach to community policing through school support, police presence in the community, and developing good relationships between the police and the residents.
He looks forward to “leading and working with the dedicated and hardworking members and staff of the detachment as we continue to work collaboratively with the community in keeping St. Albert one of the best places in Canada to live,” he said.
Foster will start his new job by late summer or early fall. He is taking over from Insp. Kevin Murray. Murray left his commanding position in St. Albert in May to become superintendent for the Central Alberta District with the RCMP.
