Barber shop break-in

RCMP is investigating after the Tudor Glen Barber Shop was broken into between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. on Jan. 8.

The suspect(s) smashed the glass door of the business and left with an undisclosed amount of cash.

A witness said he saw a man leave the area in a yellow SUV type vehicle.

As of Thursday afternoon, the Barber Shop was accepting customers.

“It’s going to take a little more than that to keep us out of business,” says owner Alex Dawod.

RCMP is still working to obtain a description of the suspect.

Teen interrupts potential break-in

A potential break-in was interrupted by a 13-year-old boy home sick from school on Jan. 8.

The teen heard noises in his home around 8:30 a.m. and found an unknown woman standing in the house. She told the teen she knew his mom and left the home shortly after.

The teen’s parents do not know who this intruder was.

The woman is described as tall and thin with long black hair.

Nothing appears missing from the Akinsdale home. Investigators are working to develop a better description of the intruder.

There has been a spike in residential and business break-and-enters in recent weeks, say RCMP. At this point there is no evidence of a connection between the crimes.

Vehicles stolen during morning rush hour

St. Albert RCMP officers were dispatched to three separate vehicle thefts within a 90-minute time period on Jan. 6.

The owner of a grey GMC Sierra called police to report his truck missing around 7 a.m. The Sierra was left running with the keys inside while parked on a driveway on Lucien Drive.

The truck was quickly recovered down the street. It appeared that the individual(s) responsible encountered a mechanical issue with the truck.

The second theft was reported at 7:10 a.m. A grey Dodge Ram 1500 was left running in front of a residence on Bellevue Crescent with the keys inside.

A third theft was reported at 8:15 a.m. from Willoughby Drive, involving a navy blue Lexus ES30. The vehicle was left running in front of a residence with keys inside.

“We need to have people lock their vehicles when they’re warming up. It’s almost like serving them on a platter to (criminals),” says Cpl. Laurel Kading with St. Albert RCMP.

“We’re asking the community: let’s get real vigilant here. Something is going on and we all need to be a part of helping shut it down.”

There has been a spike in vehicle thefts and attempted thefts this season, say RCMP. The detachment’s crime analyst is working with surrounding communities to determine if there are connections between the thefts.

Heritage Lakes home break-in

A home on Hawthorne Crescent was broken into between 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 4.

Both panes of the small front window by the door were broken, which allowed the front door to be unlocked. Another window in the home entertainment room was broken as well.

It appeared that nothing was taken from the house, but the homeowner suspects that the intruder(s) may have been intending to return to the home later to complete the theft.

Car stereos stolen

Two parked vehicles were broken into and their stereos stolen overnight between Jan. 4 and Jan. 5.

Unknown individual(s) broke a window of a 2005 white Ford pickup truck parked on Akins Drive. The dashboard of the vehicle was ripped apart as the stereo was stolen.

The driver’s window of a black 2005 Chevrolet Blazer SUV parked at 500 Rivercrest Crescent was broken the same night. A stereo and subwoofer were stolen.
