Several vehicles were vandalized in Campbell Business Park over the weekend.

Marie Renaud, executive director with the LoSeCa Foundation at 215 Carnegie Dr., said two tires on their wheelchair-accessible bus were slashed. Five other vehicles, parked in a fenced parking area near the business, also had their tires slashed and windshields broken.

The vehicles belonged not only to LoSeCa but several neighbouring businesses, said Renaud. Three of them were company vehicles. The businesses expect the vandalism took place sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning.

“Who slashes tires of a bus that is wheelchair accessible?” she said. “The bus transports people with disabilities.”

Renaud said the fenced parking lot is not easy to access. You have to use a code to get in or climb over the fence, which is fairly high. “You have to make an effort to get in there,” she said.

The RCMP is now investigating. No suspects have been identified at this time. “This type of event is unusual for St. Albert,” said Cpl. Laurel Kading.

Anyone with information about these crimes can call the St. Albert RCMP at 780-458-7700, or if you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS)

A 14-year-old missing youth was found. Brayden Stevenson-Tourangeau was located on May 10 and is not in danger, Morinville RCMP said.

The youth was reported missing on April 19 from Bon Accord in Sturgeon County.

Distracted driving is now more expensive.

Traffic fines for distracted driving in Alberta increased to $287 from $172 on May 1. Distracted driving includes using a hand-held phone, texting, reading and eating while behind the wheel.

St. Albert RCMP teamed up with a motorcycle officer from Edmonton K Division this week to educate adult and youth drivers about the new fine. Drivers were given red thumb rings to remind them not to text or use their cellphone while driving. They were also reminded that left turns are not allowed from the two Bellerose High School parking lots between 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
