An armed man walked into the Esso gas station on Giroux Road early Saturday, March 7. He pulled out a handgun and demanded money from the cash register. When the clerk refused to give him anything, the man ran out of the store.

The attempted robbery took place around 1:30 a.m. RCMP searched the area with police dogs and a helicopter but could not find the man. He is described as a white male in his early 20s, with a skinny build. He is about six-feet tall and was wearing a medium, grey-zip hoodie jacket, light coloured track pants and white running shoes. He also wore a green mask.

Several impaired drivers took to the roads last weekend.

Between March 13 and March 15, RCMP had five “driving while impaired” calls. People complained about cars swerving, going “all over the road” and almost hitting the ditch “several times.”

As a result, a three-day suspension was issued, a seizure notice was served, and four cases remain under investigation. One vehicle was not located. The RCMP asks people to plan a ride home before drinking.

Thieves continue to take advantage of unlocked cars.

Overnight, between March 11 and March 12, someone stole a new pair of golf shoes and a garage door opener from two unlocked cars in the Lacombe Park area. The following night, someone entered another unlocked, parked vehicle and stole loose change and a garage door opener.

The person(s) used this to open the garage to the home and stole tools, summer car tires and two mountain bikes. The RCMP remind residents to lock their car doors and remove valuables, including garage door openers.

A $9,000 ring is in the wrong hands after a theft earlier this month. On March 2, a man asked to see a ring at People's Jewellers store in St. Albert Centre. When the ring was taken out of the display case, the man grabbed it and ran out of the store and the mall. He was last seen behind Canadian Tire. The theft took place around 3:36 p.m.

The man is described as Caucasian, approximately 6.1-feet tall, lean build and weighing 180 to 190 pounds. He had a bruise on the bridge of his nose, a red spot on his forehead and was wearing darker pants, black and white shoes and a dark toque.

Sometime between March 13 and 15, one or more people broke into an apartment on Woodlands Road. They pried open the door and took several items, worth about $6,000. These included a 58” Toshiba TV, a Toshiba laptop and MacBook computer, a Wii game system, DJ equipment, a snowboard and a fender guitar.

Two males stole two gym bags from from the basketball court at Servus Place on March 5. The bags contained several items, such as cellphones and wallets. RCMP has security footage of the thieves but could not identify them yet.

A teenager's phone was stolen after she left it at a McDonald's restaurant on Feb. 20. The 13-year old girl forgot to unplug her iPhone after charging it on her seat in the St. Albert Trail McDonald's at the north end of the city. Shortly after she left the restaurant, a man from another table stood up and took the phone.

He then left with two other men he was sitting with. The theft occurred between 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m. Video security shows the man as a white male wearing beige pants, a dark jacket and a dark blue toque with a beige stripe.
