RCMP are asking for the public's help to identify a man who followed a group of teens in his Jeep behind St. Albert Centre last month.

Around 6:30 p.m. on July 9, a 14-year-old girl and her two friends noticed a 2013 or 2014 black Jeep Cherokee driving slowly and closely by them in a suspicious manner behind St. Albert Centre Mall near Rivercrest Apartments.

The man had the windows in his SUV rolled down, but did not say anything to the teens. They described him as smiling at them in a creepy way, which made them feel uncomfortable.

The driver then turned around and drove back into the parking lot of the mall. The teens did not see where he went.

The youth were not physically harmed, but their instincts told them “something was off,” said Cpl. Laurel Kading with St. Albert RCMP.

“As part of proper personal safety, listen to your instincts. There may be a reason you’re feeling that way that isn’t readily apparent to you.”

If you feel uncomfortable, have police check things out, she said.

“We don’t want people to feel foolish for calling us.”

The driver of the Jeep was described as in his mid-20s, thin, white skinned with reddish brown hair and a scruffy beard.

Investigative efforts by the RCMP have failed to identify the driver of the Jeep so the public is being asked if they have seen any similar incidents or if they know this person.

If you any information about this or any crime, call the St. Albert RCMP at 780-458-7700, or if you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS). Crime Stoppers does not subscribe to Call Display, Call Trace or tape any phone calls. If your information leads to an arrest, you qualify for a cash award up to $2,000.00.
