Police seek help after teen robbed of backpack

The St. Albert RCMP is looking for help identifying three people who robbed a 16-year-old girl of her backpack last Thursday.

The young woman was walking behind Grandin mall when she was approached by a two teenage girls and a teenage boy, who demanded the backpack and money.

She turned over the backpack and was not harmed, and the trio left in a grey Suzuki SUV with an Alberta licence plate.

Police said the three robbers didn't use any force, but definitely threatened it.

“They didn't have any weapons with them, but they were just demanding her backpack,” said Cpl. Laurel Kading. “She definitely believed she might get hurt.”

The first female suspect was Caucasian, about 16 years old and was described as tall with a thin build. She has long dark hair and a gold piercing between her chin and lower lip. She was wearing black yoga pants and a black jacket.

The second girl was also Caucasian, short and with a medium build. She has long light brown hair with bangs and was wearing jeans and a white ski jacket with a purple stripe on the arm.

The male is also Caucasian and believed to be about 17 or 18 years old and has curly red hair. At the time of the incident he was wearing a baseball cap, dark coloured jacket and jeans.

Kading said police captured only a partial licence plate from the security cameras and that the backpack contained mostly just the girl's school notes.

Police also released photographs this week of a man who stole several gold necklaces from the St. Albert Goldsmiths earlier this month.

The man went into the store in St. Albert Centre grabbed the necklaces and ran out through the mall before driving away.
