St. Albert MLA Stephen Khan is asking local residents for their input on how to spend the Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund.

A public meeting will be held tonight at the Oasis Centre at 10930-177 Street in Edmonton from 7 to 9 p.m.

The long-term savings fund created in 1976 has set aside a portion of income gathered from nonrenewable resource revenues every year. The fund is currently valued at more than $16.6 billion and has contributed $35 billion to support spending in areas such as healthcare, education, infrastructure and social programs.

“This is an opportunity for Albertans to offer some direction and some guidance as to what we could and possibly should do with the fund and to hear about what we’re planning,” said Khan.

People can also watch the meeting live on Shaw or online at www.assembly.ab.ca/committees/abheritagetrustfund.
