An Edmonton man is facing eight charges of breaking and entering after police arrested him and found the address of several homes in a notebook he was carrying.

David Michael Baker, made his first court appearance on Monday on eight charges of breaking and entering and a single count of theft over $5,000.

Baker was arrested in Leduc on June 18 and Const. Janice Schoepp said they found a notebook on him that contained many addresses.

“He had a notebook with addresses of residences in several communities and at that point, of the eight that were broken into, three of them were in the notebook.”

Schoepp said in addition to the three addresses that were in his notebook the police connected him to the other break-ins partly on the pattern that had developed.

RCMP warned about the break-ins when they occurred in the spring. Generally they involved homes where a recreational vehicle or trailer was normally parked outside and the break-in would occur when the family went on vacation.

When the homeowners returned they generally found jewelry, cash and electronics missing.

Schoepp said Baker was well known to police and faces charges in several other communities.

“He has quite an extensive criminal history.”

The single count of theft relates to a Ford F-150 pick-up truck. Schoepp said a witness reported seeing a man loading the truck with items out of one of the homes that was broken into. The truck was eventually returned.
