RCMP are advising motorists to avoid Edmonton-area highways due to freezing rain which is causing "extremely treacherous driving conditions."
RCMP issued a release at 8:39 a.m. this morning which stated they are currently dealing with multiple collisions on Highway 16 east of Edmonton in Strathcona County as well as west of Edmonton in Parkland County.
Additionally, RCMP are on scene for multiple collisions north of Edmonton in Sturgeon County, including on Highway 44.
RCMP have advised, if travel is absolutely necessary, motorists should use extreme caution and check 511 regularly for road updates.
