Local RCMP officers are asking for the public’s help locating a man who pulled a knife on a store employee.

The man went into the Safeway store on Hebert Road around 7:25 a.m. on April 1 and took some smokies from a meat fridge before walking out the front door with them without paying.

The employee followed the man out of the store and approached him in the parking lot. The man stopped, pulled out a knife and gestured at the employee.

Cpl. Laurel Kading said the man didn’t move toward the employee, who immediately backed off, but it is still disturbing.

“He sorted of stepped toward him and showed it and then the employee stopped,” she said. “He didn’t actually do anything to the employee thank goodness, but it is disturbing that he had it.”

RCMP arrived on scene and brought in a police dog to try and locate the man, but they were unsuccessful.

The man is described as a white male, approximately five-foot six-inches tall. He was mostly bald, but did have brown hair on the side of his head. He was clean-shaven and between 40 and 45 years old.

The man was captured on store security footage, but the police have not been able to determine who he is and are looking for help identifying him.

Anyone with any information on the man or the robbery can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or the St. Albert RCMP at 780-458-7700.
