Reel Mondays returns

Stellar cinema returns to benefit STARFest, with in-person screenings coming to the Arden Theatre.

DETAILS

Reel Mondays series: Fall 2020

Each film will play at 2 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. to allow for proper physical distancing

Monday, Oct. 26: Judy

Monday, Nov. 9: The Good Liar

Tuesday, Dec. 1: Ford v. Ferrari

Each attendee must be registered in advance (even if you already bought a ticket earlier this year) and must follow COVID-19 health and safety rules to be allowed entry. Registration closes Sunday, Oct. 25, at 11:59 p.m.

Entry is by-donation in advance (no cash accepted at the door). If you have previously purchased tickets that have not been redeemed, you may choose to skip the donation.

All attendees are required to abide by certain safety measures set out by the Arden Theatre and Alberta Health Services. An email will be sent to all registered attendees in advance so they are aware of expectations, such as mask requirements.

Valerie Spink is pleased to take the movies off 'pause' again and press 'play'. The winter lineup of films that was delayed due to COVID-19 is returning to the big screen with the remaining titles in the series now on the marquee.

She thanked patrons for their patience while the Friends of the St. Albert Public Library negotiated rescheduled dates for the three shows. She added things are a little different with maximum attendances of 100 people in the Arden Theatre for each of the two screenings (one in the afternoon and one in the evening) for each movie.

"I can understand that maybe people are unsure. The word 'safety' has come up, but I think the way we're doing it and the way the city has supported us in this ... people should be very safe," she said, adding, "and if they choose to wear a mask, then that's entirely again up to them."

The revived series starts with Renée Zellweger in her wonderful Oscar-winning performance in Judy. The movie tells the heart-wrenching story of Judy Garland, who rose from being a celebrated child star to a fallen star who is nearing the curtains of her career and personal life. It plays on Oct. 26.

That will be followed on Nov. 9 with The Good Liar featuring Dame Helen Mirren and Sir Ian McKellen. The series ends for the first time ever on a Tuesday, with the 'based on a true story about car racing glory' Ford v. Ferrari featuring Oscar-winner Christian Bale and Matt Damon. It revs up and runs on Dec. 1.

These are movies best watched on the big screen, Spink confirmed, and she thanked both the city for making the theatre available for two screenings per movie  and also the staff at the Arden for their incredible supportiveness to help make another successful run of Reel Mondays.

People are required to visit the organization's newly launched website at friendsofsapl.ca/reel-monday for full details and the mandatory registration form. Each attendee must be registered in advance and must follow COVID-19 health and safety rules to be allowed entry.

Entry is by advance donation as no cash will be accepted at the door. If you have previously purchased tickets that have not been redeemed, you may choose to skip the donation.

Reel Mondays is the major fundraiser for the Friends, who in turn gives the proceeds to STARFest, which is going on right now virtually at the library.
