Edmonton-area residents can run off those winter blues in support of local military personnel and their families.

Sunday, June 1, is the sixth annual Loops for the Troops fun run and walk in which participants can choose to do either a half marathon, a five or ten kilometre run, or a military mile (family friendly walk).

This event is held annually on Canadian Armed Forces Day on the Canadian Forces Base in Edmonton (just north of Rhine Road and Churchill Ave).

Loops for the Troops was an event that originated in Calgary in 2008, in memory of Cpl. Nathan Hornburg, who was killed while on active duty in Afghanistan in 2007. Lt. Sarah Keller, wife of fallen local soldier Cpl. Bryce Keller, became the race co-director for the Edmonton Loops for Troops after the overwhelming response to the event in Calgary.

The Keller family, with assistance of the Military Family Resource Centre, hosts this event annually. The event is to honour the Canadian Armed Forces, military veterans, first-response services, military families, and those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice while in service of Canada.

Pledge and registration forms are available at www.familyforce.ca.
