Shotgun fired at house following party

A gun was fired at a house on Granite Avenue early Sunday morning and police are looking for information from the public to help determine who did it.

Police believe the shot came from a shotgun that was fired at the house around 3 a.m.

A party at the house had just been broken up right before the shot was fired. Two men had been fighting and the owner of the house decided to end the gathering and send people home.

Cpl. Laurel Kading of the St. Albert RCMP said police are trying to interview everyone from the party but would also like to hear from anyone who might have information about what happened.

“If anybody saw anything that night and has leads they can give us to move the investigation along, that would be very helpful,” Kading said.

It appears that some of the party guests didn’t know one another so it’s taking police some time to interview everyone, she said.

Police were not called to the party earlier in the evening — only after the shot was fired, she said.

A vehicle passed the house right before the shot but police don’t know if the shot was fired from the vehicle and can’t be sure if it was in response to the fight.

Police believe the shot had something to do with the party, but again can’t be completely sure.

“If it wasn’t [related] it is awfully coincidental, but we don’t know,” Kading said. “We are looking to determine exactly what did happen.”

The shot hit a pickup truck in the driveway as well as striking the house. No one was hurt in the incident, but Kading said there was real potential for injury and the police are taking it very seriously.

Kading said most of the party attendees were young adults between the ages of 18 and 20.

Anyone with any information on the shooting should contact the RCMP at 780-458-7700 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Crime Stoppers takes information anonymously and does not require calls to provide any information.
