Mother’s Day is that one day of the year when moms, grandmothers and aunts are bombarded with brunches and bouquets.

It’s their special day to be treated like queens – especially after dealing with a long line of sleepless nights and putting their life on hold for the kids.

Flowers look vibrant and smell pretty, but they only last for a few days. Brunches, on the other hand, are family sit-downs with lots of laughter, conversation and memories that can last a lifetime.

St. Albert has a wide variety of restaurants offering Mother’s Day brunches and buffets on May 10. Check them out, pick the one that suits your mother best and reserve early.

Not usually open on Sundays until 4 p.m., Sorrentino's is hosting a Mother’s Day Brunch for discriminating diners from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Two seatings are offered at a buffet-style setting that offers an omelette station, pasta-salad section, cinnamon and bread station, cheese and fruit section as well as a carving station. The cost is $30 adults, $15 for children 12 and under.

For fine diners searching for something a little different, Glasshouse Bistro offers a three-course meal. The first course is in-house pastries with whipped passion fruit butter. The second course offers choices of steak and eggs, lemon ricotta hot cakes, waffles and duck, herb encrusted Icelandic char or roasted Portobello and Gruyere rosti. Dessert is a choice of two items – chocolate mousse cup or fresh fruit with a champagne sorbet. Hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and price is $49 per person. A complete menu is on the website at glasshousebistro.ca.

Apex offers eclectic cuisine with an expansive brunch buffet that ranges from eggs, pancakes, sausage and pasta to fresh salads, cruditĂ©s with cheese, fish dishes and meat platters. And lots of desserts – both for children and adults – to complete the meal. Cost is $29.95 for adults, $13.95 for children and four and under eat free.

The casual diner may prefer spending the day at the newly opened Blue Rare Steak and Bar. Breakfast eaters can choose wraps, waffles, four different styles of eggs Benedict, steak sandwiches and fresh fruit salad. Hours are 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Prices on the a la carte menu vary from $7 to $20.

In addition to its regular menu of starters, sandwiches, soups, salads, burgers, main dishes and desserts, Earls is offering five additional a la carte dishes: eggs Benedict, eggs Florentine, chorizo hash browns, sourdough French toast and Croque-Madame sandwich. Brunch menu is on from 12 noon to 2 p.m.
