Candidates running to be MLA for the St. Albert and the Spruce Grove-St. Albert ridings faced questions about space crunches in the city's hospital and schools at the first St. Albert  forum of the provincial election season on Monday night.

The St. Albert and District Chamber of Commerce hosted 10 out of the 11 candidates running for MLA in the St. Albert and Spruce Grove-St. Albert ridings at their forum. Extra chairs had to be added to accommodate the crowd.

The written questions were vetted and combined by themes, and then read by a moderator to the candidates.

Candidates fielded a handful of questions that ranged from diversifying the economy to space crunches in St. Albert's schools and hospital, to thoughts on sales taxes to asking the candidates to enumerate how they've made their community a better place.

Answers ranged from personal views to highlight reels of party platforms as each candidate got multiple swings at bat to convince the packed room to vote for them come May 5.

For more indepth coverage of the issues raised at the chamber's forum, please see the Wednesday edition of the St. Albert Gazette.
