The St. Albert Gazette has been named among the top three newspapers in North America in its circulation category by the Local Media Association in its 2013 Newspaper of the Year competition.
The association, previously known as the Suburban Newspapers of America, placed the Gazette third in the 22,501 to 37,500 circulation category.
Gazette publisher Brian Bachynski said the newspaper staff work diligently to offer an accurate, relevant news product.
"Every person who works at the Gazette is extremely proud of the paper and their contributions to it," said Bachynski Thursday.
"It's because of their efforts that the Gazette continues to stand out amongst its peers across Canada and North America.
"We try our level best to reflect our community and deliver the information that our readers expect. We'll never waiver from that commitment."
The judges made several comments. About the Gazette’s editorial content, the judges stated “Nothing that happens in St. Albert escapes notice of the Gazette. Strong breaking news and interesting features, particularly education.”
On typography, judges stated simply, “Clean layouts.” When commenting on the advertising and marketing of the Gazette, judges stated, “Plenty of it, in a variety of sizes.”
Judges closed their comments by stating, “Strong, strong mix of service stories. Ads and information that really serve community.”
Local Media Association is the only non-profit, professional trade association specifically serving the suburban and community newspaper industry and has more than 2,000 member newspapers across North America.
