A St. Albert McDonald’s employee has tested positive for COVID-19, leading the fast food location at 369 St. Albert Trail to close over the weekend for a thorough cleaning and sanitization by a certified third party.

McDonald’s Canada issued a public notice for patrons who may have come in contact to exercise caution.

The employee worked their last shift on Saturday, Aug. 8, from 1 to 8 p.m. Anyone who may have visited this location during that time period should follow the appropriate precautions and directives from Alberta Health Services, as found on its website at albertahealthservices.ca.

All other employees who may have been in close contact with the person were asked to self-quarantine until further information was available.

While the Gazette had originally been given information that the location was open again Monday morning, it was still closed as of Tuesday morning.

The chain’s public notice noted the various measures it has taken inside its many locations to limit interpersonal contact and prevent the spread of the virus. It also expressed McDonald’s commitment to people and to working with Alberta Health Services.

“At McDonald’s Canada, our top priority is to protect the health and well-being of our people and our guests – it’s at the core of everything we do,” read the statement. “We will continue to monitor and adapt measures, where necessary.”
