St. Albert RCMP lay firearms, vehicle theft charges

An adult male driver and a 14-year-old passenger were arrested without incident after RCMP located a stolen vehicle.

St. Albert RCMP have charged a Drayton Valley man and an Edmonton youth with firearms and theft offences after officers located a stolen vehicle in north St. Albert.

On Feb. 21, RCMP responded to a reported sighting of a stolen vehicle in the parking lot of Landmark Cinema. The complainant reported that the vehicle was stolen from Westlock in December.

Police patrolled the area and located the suspicious vehicle. Through police checks, officers confirmed the vehicle was stolen. They arrested the adult male driver and youth passenger without incident. Police also located a .303 rifle and ammunition inside the vehicle.

Riley Edward Jones Vader, 24, of Drayton Valley, faces five charges, including:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime less then or equal $5000;
  • Possession of a firearm / weapon / device / ammunition in a motor vehicle;
  • Possession of an unauthorized restricted weapon;
  • Possession of a weapon contrary to court order;
  • Operate a motor vehicle while prohibited.

The Edmonton youth, 14, has been charged with the following four offences:

  • Fail to comply with court order;
  • Possession of property obtained by crime less then or equal $5000;
  • Possession of an unauthorized restricted weapon;
  • Possession of a firearm / weapon/ device/ ammunition in a motor vehicle.
Both individuals were remanded in custody.
