St. Albert RCMP recover guns, goods from stolen vehicle

Police recovered five shotguns, one of which was loaded, as well as drugs they believe to be heroin, and myriad other items such as jewelry, a tactical police vest, a security safe and new household items still in their boxes.

RCMP recovered five shotguns, ammunition, drugs and a metal baton from a stolen vehicle last week, and charged one man with nine criminal offences.

On Sept. 23, a general duty officer conducted patrols at Century Casino parking lot, and observed a Ford Explorer parked in an unlit area with a man sitting in the driver’s seat. The officer investigated and discovered the vehicle was stolen.

Wesley Aubichon, 36, of Edmonton was arrested. Inside the vehicle, police discovered new household items in boxes as well as shotguns and ammunition.

The registered owners of the stolen vehicle stated none of the assets inside were theirs. Police removed and secured all the items before the vehicle was returned to the owners.

While emptying the Ford Explorer, police seized weapons including a loaded Remington 12-gauge 870 shotgun, three Hunt Group Arms shotguns, a Ranger shotgun, ammunition, a Buck knife, a metal baton and a tactical police vest.

In addition, RCMP came across jewelry, audio equipment, a security safe, electronic/household goods, sets of keys, tools, drugs, drug paraphernalia and Canadian currency.

Aubichon is charged with one count of possessing a weapon for dangerous purposes, one count of possessing a loaded firearm, one count of possessing unauthorized firearm, three counts of possessing stolen property and one count of possessing a break-in instrument.

He is also charged with one count of possessing body armour without a valid permit and one count of drug possession.

Following an initial judicial hearing, Aubichon was remanded in custody and appeared in St. Albert Provincial Court on Sept. 28, 2020 where bail was denied. His next court appearance is Monday, Oct. 19, at St. Albert Provincial Court.
