Local RCMP officers are investigating another stabbing, this time in Pineview.

Officers were called around 3:40 a.m. Saturday following a disturbance call outside. The call initially came in as a fight, but as officers were en route they learned someone had been stabbed.

Const. Janice Schoepp said the altercation appears to have started with a simple disagreement.

"It started as a verbal argument and it escalated from there," she said.

It appears the pair was completely unknown to each other.

The victim was rushed to hospital and remains in stable condition.

When officers arrived on scene the suspect had already fled the area.

"They attempted to track him using a police dog, but they were not successful."

Schoepp said investigators have a suspect in mind, but they are releasing few details and have not made any arrests.

Second stabbing

This is the second stabbing in three days in the city following an altercation in Akinsdale last Thursday.

In that case the victim was stabbed in the head and hands following an argument in a residence.

Schoepp said the two instances are completely unrelated and this type of violence is very rare for the city.

"It is not common for us to have two stabbings in St. Albert in this short period of time."

After laying charges of two counts of assault with a weapon and two counts of uttering threats, police have sworn out a warrant for Richard Wayne Durocher.

As of Tuesday afternoon they had not located Durocher and are asking the public to come forward if they have seen him.

He is a 24-year-old white male with short brown hair. He weighs 160 pounds and is approximately five-foot-ten.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the St. Albert RCMP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
